Tonsillitis: symptoms and treatment

Tonsillitis is the inflammation of the tonsils and of the throat pharynx. Most often this condition occurs due to flew infections or bacteria such as staphylococcus, pneumococcus and meningococcus.

Symptoms of tonsillitis caused by viral infections differ from those of bacterial tonsillitis. If viral angina has a slow start with low fever, without pus and sore throat with low intensity, then tonsillitis caused by bacteria starts suddenly with high fever, chills, throat pus and headaches.

Mild forms of tonsillitis can be treated at home. It is recommended to rest in bed for the whole period of fever, a semi-liquid diet and proper hydration, especially with hot tea. To diminish the fever, anti-pyretic and anti-inflammatory medicines can be used, and for sore throats local antiseptic can be used as well.

If the fever continues to maintain or raises, the sore throat is intensifying, ask your family doctor for proper treatment.
