1st December - World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day was first celebrated on 1st December 1988. The United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) became operational in 1996 and took over the planning and promotion of World AIDS Day. UNAIDS created the World AIDS Campaign in 1997 and since then it focuses on communication, prevention and education. More than 25 million people have died of HIV between 1981 and 2007 and about 33.2 million people are living with HIV since 2007.

What causes pneumonia and how it can be prevented
In 2009 World Health Organization launched World Pneumonia Day to raise awareness of pneumonia and its impact on society, to promote pneumonia prevention and treatment worldwide. Since then World Pneumonia Day is annually held on November 12. Pneumonia is an infection of one or both lungs caused by viruses, bacteria and parasites. It is characterized primarily by inflammation of the alveoli in the lungs. Regularly pneumonia begins with an upper respiratory infection (an infection of the nose and throat) also known as the common cold. If the symptoms are ignored, the infection is getting worse.

Tuberculosis: Everything you need to know about this disease
