Descritpion and Composition
Each ampoule (1 ml, 2 ml or 5 ml) contains water for injections; each vial contains water for injections 10 ml. Solvent for parenteral use (clear, colourless liquid), available in ampoule packs (N5x2) and vial packs (N10).Indication: Water for injections is indicated as a vehicle for dilution and reconstitution of medicinal products or diagnostic preparations suitable for parenteral administration.
Contraindications (SmPC sec. 4.3): Water for injections must not be administered as such (without being combined with other medicinal products). Water for injections is not to be used if the instructions for use of the pharmacologically active medicinal product specify a different solvent. The contraindications of the added medicinal product must be taken into account.
Special warnings and precautions (SmPC sec. 4.4): Water for injections must not be administered directly intravascularly (without being combined with other medicinal products), as it is hypotonic and may cause haemolysis. Haemolysis may occur as a result of infusing large volumes of hypotonic solutions using water for injections as solvent. When large volumes are administered, the ionic balance must be monitored regularly. When water for injections is used as a solvent for hypertonic solutions, adequate dilution must be carried out to bring the solution close to isotonicity.
