Descritpion and Composition
One Methylprednisolone-BP 16 mg tablet contains 16 mg methylprednisolone. Excipient with known effect: 131 mg lactose monohydrate.

One Methylprednisolone-BP 4 mg tablet contains 4 mg methylprednisolone. Excipient with known effect: 70 mg lactose monohydrate.

Indication: Methylprednisolone-BP is indicated for inflammatory and systemic rheumatic diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, including juvenile, ankylosing spondylitis), collagenoses (systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic dermatomyositis), allergic states (drug hypersensitivity reactions, serum sickness, contact dermatitis, anaphylactic shock, asthma), respiratory diseases (symptomatic sarcoidosis), reduction of intracranial pressure (tumour-associated cerebral oedema), transplant rejection reactions, dermatological diseases (pemphigus vulgaris), haematological diseases (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, autoimmune haemolytic anaemia), neoplastic diseases (leukaemia, malignant lymphoma), liver diseases (autoimmune hepatitis), neurological diseases (multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis), ophthalmic diseases (uveitis, optic neuritis), renal diseases (glomerulonephritis), and gastrointestinal diseases (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease).

Contraindications (SmPC sec. 4.3): 4.3. Contraindications − Systemic fungal infections − Systemic infections, unless specific anti-infective therapy is used − Hypersensitivity to methylprednisolone or to any of the excipients listed in section 6.1 − Administration of live or attenuated vaccines is contraindicated in patients receiving immunosuppressive doses of corticosteroids; This medicine is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.

Special warnings and precautions for use Immunosuppressive effects/increased susceptibility to infections Corticosteroids may increase susceptibility to infections, may mask certain signs of infection, and new infections may appear during treatment. The use of corticosteroids may be associated with decreased resistance and an inability to localise infection. With the use of corticosteroids alone or in combination with other immunosuppressive agents affecting cellular immunity, humoral immunity or neutrophil function, infections with any pathogen, including viral, bacterial, fungal, protozoal or helminthic infections, located anywhere in the body, may occur.
