The Minister of Economy and Infrastructure and Director-General of the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices paid a working visit to Balkan Pharmaceuticals
Today, September 24, the Director General of the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices, Mr. Eremei Priseajniuc, together with the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Mr. Sergiu Railean, paid a working visit to the local drug manufacturer, Balkan Pharmaceuticals.
During the visit, several important topics were addressed, including the guarantee of stocks and production capacity of medicines for the treatment of seasonal diseases, as well as other essential products, Balkan Pharmaceuticals being the only domestic producer of Dexamethasone, a drug used, including, in the treatment of COVID-19.
Dexamethasone treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients is supported by the European Union and the EMA (European Medicines Agency), which is also provided for in the Provisional National Clinical Protocol.
"The fact that we produce Dexamethasone here, in the Republic of Moldova, a drug used in COVID-19 treatment, is an extremely beneficial for our country. As mentioned before, the priority of Agency is to create all the conditions for our citizens to benefit only from safe, effective and affordable medicines. We received assurances from the manufacturer that the stock of drugs used in COVID-19 treatment, as well as the necessary raw materials are enough for the next 6 months", said the General Manager of AMDM, Mr. Eremei Priseajniuc.
Minister Railean pointed out that “In this not at all easy period, it is important to provide the local market with all the necessary medicines, especially with the products from the anti-COVID-19 treatment spectrum. We are at the beginning of the cold season, when the number of illnesses increases and chronic diseases worsen. Therefore, we must ensure that in the coming period we will be prepared with all pharmaceutical remedies in the required quantities. Given that the raw material for the production of medicines is imported, we have to make sure that the risks that may occur due to possible traffic restrictions related to the second wave of the pandemic are as low as possible”.
"In the process of activity, domestic manufacturers occasionally face various legislative or operational difficulties, which can be solved only through effective cooperation with regulatory bodies. In this sense, maintaining a constructive dialogue with the central authorities is an absolutely necessary thing", underlined the General Manager of Balkan Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Vasile Cazacu.
