Between October 13–15, 2026, the international symposium “Microbiology on the Move” took place in Strasbourg, France. The event was organized by the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM), a Council of Europe body.
Balkan Pharmaceuticals was represented at this prominent event by Ms. Yevcheva Yrina, Senior Biologist within the Microbiological and Biological Testing Laboratory of the Quality Control Department.

Bringing together regulatory authorities, pharmacopoeia representatives, industry experts, and members of the scientific community, the symposium served as a premier platform for discussing current developments, challenges, and innovations in pharmaceutical microbiology.
The core topics addressed during the three-day program included:
- Harmonization of microbiological requirements under the European Pharmacopoeia, including sterility testing and microbiological examination of non-sterile products;
- Implementation, validation, and regulatory expectations for Alternative and Rapid Microbiological Methods (RMM);
- Practical application of the revised Chapter 5.1.6 of the European Pharmacopoeia;
- Microbiological control challenges associated with complex matrix products, such as advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and radiopharmaceuticals;
- Case studies and best practices in market surveillance and quality control inspections.

The participation of Balkan Pharmaceuticals' specialists in such high-level international forums reflects the company's steadfast commitment to maintaining the highest standards of product quality, safety, and efficacy. By continuously aligning its laboratory practices with the rigorous standards of the European Pharmacopoeia, Balkan Pharmaceuticals reinforces its dedication to safeguarding public health and delivering reliable, high-standard medicines.
