Pyridostigminum

Each Piridostigmin-BP 60 mg tablet contains pyridostigmine bromide 60 mg.

Indication: Piridostigmin-BP is used for the treatment of paralytic ileus, myasthenia gravis and post-operative urinary retention.

Contraindications (SmPC sec. 4.3): 4.3 Contraindications − Hypersensitivity to pyridostigmine bromide or to any of the excipients listed in sec. 6.1; − Mechanical obstruction of the intestine or urinary tract. This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents because the pharmaceutical form is not suitable for their age.

Special warnings and precautions (SmPC sec. 4.4, excerpt): 4.4 Special warnings and precautions for use Caution is required when administering to patients with obstructive respiratory conditions such as bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Attention should be paid to patients with: − arrhythmias such as bradycardia and AV block (elderly patients may be more susceptible to dysrhythmias than adult patients) − acute coronary syndrome − arterial hypotension − vagotonia − peptic ulcer − epilepsy or parkinsonism − hyperthyroidism − renal impairment If relatively high doses of pyridostigmine bromide are administered to patients with myasthenia gravis, atropine or other specific anticholinergic medicines are required to counteract the muscarinic effects of pyridostigmine while maintaining the nicotinic effect.
