Descritpion and Composition
1 ml of solution for injection (1 ampoule) of Piridoxin-BP (Vitamin B6) 50 mg/ml contains pyridoxine hydrochloride 50 mg.Indication: Piridoxin-BP (Vitamin B6) is indicated for the treatment or prophylaxis of conditions caused by severe pyridoxine deficiency, when oral administration is not possible: sideroblastic anaemia; neurological disorders; seborrhoeic dermatitis, as well as in the following pathological conditions: alcoholism; hereditary metabolic disorders of amino-acid metabolism (homocystinuria, primary hyperoxaluria type I). Pyridoxine is also used to prevent drug-induced toxic neuropathy associated with treatment with anti-tuberculosis medicines.
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients listed in section 6.1. Gastric and duodenal ulcer (possible increase in gastric acidity). Hepatic disorders with severe hepatic impairment. Ischaemic heart disease. Treatment with levodopa without concomitant administration of a dopa-decarboxylase inhibitor.
Patients with Parkinson's disease being treated with levodopa may safely take vitamin B6 only if they use a preparation containing both levodopa and a dopa-decarboxylase inhibitor (carbidopa). In patients requiring treatment with isoniazid, concomitant administration of vitamin B6 from the outset is recommended for the prevention of isoniazid-induced polyneuropathy. Treatment with vitamin B6 should not be discontinued abruptly. Caution and dose adjustment are recommended when other medicinal products containing vitamin B6 are used. It should be administered with caution to patients with a history of gastric and duodenal ulcer (possible increase in gastric acidity) and in hepatic impairment (pyridoxine in high doses may affect liver function).
